It’s an open secret that Jose Mourinho coveted the Old Trafford job for so long. When he was eventually snared by Manchester United, analysts were happy to point that it’s a perfect match. With the Portuguese tactician ready to wield his axe, what will happen to all those youngsters who gained prominence under Louis Van Gaal?

One of the biggest casualties could be the fleet footed Belgian Adnan Januzaj. The only shining light of a disastrous David Moyes era, Januzaj has seen his stock fall so low that even a loan deal with Borussia Dortmund turned sour. With question marks on his attitude hanging over his neck, the youngster has so much to prove. A move to Sunderland to link up with Moyes or a loan-deal with another club? Either way he looks set for the exit door!

Brazil under-20 starlet Andreas Pereira hasn’t had much chances to prove his worth under Van Gaal and was at one point eyeing the loan-exit. United management rates him very high and it is unlikely that he would be sold at this point. But a loan deal could be in the offing to gain first-team experience and then be part of the future at United.

Same is the case with highly rated teenage striker James Wilson. Injuries prevented him from cementing his place after an exciting debut. He now finds himself low down the pecking order. But, he is highly rated as well and there is a feeling that with proper first-team experience he can be their next superstar.

Defenders Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair have had enough chances under Van Gaal but have seen their stock plummet owing to various reasons. Will keane is another player in this category who has frustrated the Old Trafford hierarchy with his inability to scale up. All three are heading for the exit door and don’t be surprised if they are sold outright!

Some quarters point out that the versatile Timothy Fosu-Mensah is also heading towards the exit door. Fosu-Mensah has covered in various positions in defense and has shown glimpses of his potential many times last season. Same is the case with Cameron Borthwick-Jackson who has impressed in the very few chances he got so far. But with Luke Shaw back to full fitness, he is deemed surplus to requirements. Both players have exciting potential and it will be a huge loss if they are sold. After all, United don’t want another Paul Pogba sneaking out of Old Trafford!
