Chelsea versus Tottenham hotspur

There is something about Chelsea and Antonio Conte this season. After a tough initiation and a change of formation to back-three, the Blues have gone from strength to strength. And this weekend they added another scalp to return to the top of the table. The 2-1 win for Chelsea is the first loss this season for Tottenham although it also meant a first goal conceded by the Blues after 601 minutes.

Remarkable turnaround!

Not many may remember but when Chelsea were humbled 3-0 by Arsenal in September, they were 10th in the table and eight points behind leaders Manchester City. Conte had no words to explain the poor performance but promised to find quick solution. And he did! The transformation to back-three has worked wonders for them and even David Luiz is looking like a great defender.

But the biggest positive for Chelsea has been the recall of Victor Moses. For a player who has spent so much time away from the club on loans, Moses was always thought to be a signature away from the exit door. But Conte’s tactical shift has meant that Moses is employed as a right wing-back. And it’s working wonders for him and the club.

EPL Season 2016/2017

Control by Spurs!

Spurs came into this side unbeaten in the League and they showed exactly why it is – by controlling the initial exchanges. They had a bad week already, with Champions League elimination confirmed midweek, but were serene in the opening half. Christain Eriksen’s superb strike in the 11th minute was a true reflection of their initial superiority.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men were dominant till the final seconds of the first half when Pedro equalized for the hosts with a spectacular goal. It was a strike that you don’t normally associate with Pedro but here is the case another player who’s stepped up under Conte.

Moses’ goal proves to be the victor!

And after restart, Chelsea took the lead through Moses – another strike from the wing-back that had no answer from Jan Vertonghen or Hugo Lloris. From then on, Spurs tried their best to make a fist of it but Chelsea are in a different spehere these days.

The result was never in doubt after Moses’ strike and the wing-back is undoubtedly one of the stars of the match for the Blues. They now have a tough outing next week as they travel to Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City. Tottenham will take on Swansea at home.
