Is Koch on the move to Toulon? Is Koch on the move to Toulon?

Stormers Super Rugby tighthead prop Vincent Koch is in the news as his name has propped up as a target for Toulon and Saracens. He is close friends with former Stormers captain Duane Vermeulen who has incidentally moved to Toulon. That link is probably one of the reasons why Koch’s name has come up with the French club. Another club said to be interested in signing Koch is Saracens. The interest in the player is high and is an indicator of his potential though he missed out on Springbok selection for the Rugby World Cup squad.

The future plans of the player are currently up for discussion but the 25 year-old is expected to play for the Stormers scrum again in this year tournament. Though there is no offer of increase in last year’s salary, Koch could still be at the club. His close friendship with Vermeulen tilts the scales in favor of Koch joining Toulon who were unable to find a suitable successor for All Black Carl Hayman and Italian Martin Castrogiavanni.

Koch is not among the 20 players who were offered joint contracts with their unions and South African Rugby Union which means they could join a number of South African propos who now ply their trade overseas. The youngster is highly rated and his free status should also be a green signal for teams to look at Koch – especially Toulon! Koch could soon end up at Toulon but don’t rule out any other clubs right away. Watch this space!
