Russia and Wales will have contrasting thoughts circling their minds when they take on each other at the Stadium Municipal in Toulouse on Monday, June 20. This Group B fixture has the potential of deciding the automatic qualifiers for the round of 16 in Euro 2016.

Russia had a lot of injury concerns to attend but nothing explains their subdued performances so far in the tournament. With just one point in the kitty from a draw against England, the Russians have their backs against the wall coming into the final match against Wales. If they were lucky against England to pick up a point through a last-gasp goal, the loss against Slovakia was deserving.

Complex permutations and combinations for Group B

Group B table is tightly packed with Russia at the bottom with just one point. Anything less than three points in this game will be the end of tournament for them. The various permutations and combinations depend on the result of other game in the group between Slovakia and England. A win may not guarantee automatic qualification but will surely increase their chances of grabbing one of the four places available for best third placed teams.

Wales aren’t in the same desperate zone as Russia finds itself in but the pressure of qualifying for the knock-outs is still there. Their win against Slovakia in the group opener was a well-deserved one but the loss to England was gut-wrenching. England left it deep into injury time to grab a winner but the result was a true reflection of the struggles Wales had in the second half.

As things stand, Wales are second in the group standings with three points. A win in this game against Russia would guarantee them an automatic berth – in the top two – to the round of 16. Anything less than three points would require a favorable result from the Slovakia versus England game. With all four teams in with a chance for progression, this game promises to be a cracker.

Russia are without a win in the last five matches and have just one win in their last seven matches. Wales too are in the midst of a poor run of games – two wins and five losses in a run of nine games.

Betting advice

Russia have scored in 12 matches in succession but with just one clean sheet in their last five encounters, this Russian side is vulnerable to gifting goals. Wales have scored at least once in eight of their previous 12 encounters. With just one clean sheet in seven matches, Wales too aren’t far behind in being a leaky defense.

Russia vs Wales Betting advice

Back both sides to score.
