Hungary continued their giant killing run by starting the game positively and taking the lead through a splendid long shot goal from Zoltan Gera. But Portugal persisted with their attack and it was Nani who brought Portugal level on terms just before half-time. What followed was some frantic football with Balazs Dzsudzsak giving Hungary the lead through a deflected free-kick. Ronaldo created history by becoming the only player to score in four separate Euros and brought Portugal level again only to see Dzsudzsak to put Hungary ahead again. But Ronaldo once again came to the rescue with a bullet header to win a point.
Hungary underlined their underdog status by qualifying in the top spot and will be taking on Belgium in the round of 16 while Portugal will be pitted against Croatia.
Hungary vs Portugal Player of the game
With so much focus on him on and off the pitch, this was one game Ronaldo couldn’t miss stamping his authority. He looked lost in the initial exchanges but after scoring his first goal, he looked a different player eventually scoring the match leveler. Portugal need his scoring boots to remain, if they want to progress further!
