Both sides wanted a win to ease the nerves but Sweden wanted it badly than Belgium. But their performance wasn’t in line with the requirements as they struggled to impose themselves on the Belgian defence. Their failure to break down Marc Wilmots’ team was glaring and even highlighted their current plight. Ibrahimovic had a goal ruled out in the second half which also saw Romelu Lukaku’s effort ruled out. It was only when Radja Nainggolan’s impressive strike late in the match that won full points for Belgium.
Sweden ended the tournament with just one point and bottom of the group while Belgium qualified in second spot and will be playing Hungary in the last-16.
Sweden vs Belgium - Player of the game
In a game that was struggling to rise above mediocrity, it required a touch of brilliance from any player on either side to grab full points. And it took a sensational strike from Nainggolan to end the career of Zlatan on a low. Having started slowly in the tournament, the Red Devils – if they go deep in the tournament – may look back at this strike as a moment of inspiration.
