Group B standing currently have Slovakia sit third in the table with three points but still harbor high hopes of progression. But the group is so tightly placed that Slovakia may end up at either ends of the table. But the dilemma now would be to go for a win or to play safe and pick one point.
England: a young team may prevail
England on the other hand have come with an exuberant young squad riding high on ambitions. A draw against Russia robbed them of full points but the game against Wales saw them dish out their best play. Wales had an early goal and were leading for so long that it appeared as if England would be disappointed. But as luck would have it, Roy Hodgson saw his substitutes Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge score late goals to win full points. With qualification concerns off the back, England could play with total freedom.
Slovakia’s win over Wales was their first in three matches. Their record in last ten encounters reads as – six wins, one loss and three draws. England aren’t far behind with 11 wins from their last 14 matches with only Spain and Netherlands thwarting them. The key to England’s success could lie in getting the right team to start the match.
With just two clean sheets in their past ten matches, Slovakia have a very suspect defence. But they were involved in high scoring encounters with eight those ten matches producing over 2.5 goals. And England’s record of failing just once in their last ten matches is as much impressive. Both sides should go for goals in what promises to be a cracker of a game.
