Euro 2016

World Champions Germany finally gave a full display of their potential as they brushed aside Slovakia 3-0 in the round of 16 to advance into quarter-finals. For the first time in this tournament, Joachim Low’s side looked a strong contender for the title.

There were doubts on Jerome Boateng’s availability but Low gambled on his fitness and the defender put Germany into lead with his first international goal. Mesut Ozil had a penalty saved almost immediately becoming the first German to miss a penalty in normal time in the Euros. It was all Julian Draxler show then, with the Wolfsburg starlet setting up Mario Gomez for Germany’s second goal.

He then got a deserving goal in the second half with a wonderful volley setting up the victory for the World Champions.

It is now either Spain or Italy who will wait for Germany in the quarter-finals. There still are doubts on the efficiency of this squad but Germany looks to be slowly settling into rhythm.
