LA LIGA - Season 2016 - 2017 - Week 14- Review LA LIGA - Season 2016 - 2017 - Week 14- Review Bettingxpert.com collage

It was a great weekend for Real Madrid as they consolidated their lead at the top of the Spanish La Liga standings as their nearest competitors faltered. El Clasico ended in a draw leaving Madrid as the real winners while Sevilla and Atletico Madrid too dropped points gifting them a huge advantage. We look back at matchday 14 action.

Barcelona 1 – 1 Real Madrid

It was a cagey affair at the Nou Camp – a tale of two halves. First half was completely dominated by Real Madrid but remained goal less at the break. Second half started with Barcelona dominating the play and taking the lead through Louis Suarez. It looked to end that way until Sergio Ramos headed late in the half to earn the spoils. It was a well-deserved point for Madrid as they continue to hold their six pojnt advantage over Barcelona at the top of the standings. For the Catalans, it was a game of missed chances – one they may end up ruing at the end of the season.

Granada 2 – 1 Sevilla

It was perfect opportunity for Sevilla to make up ground in the table and displace Barcelona in the second place. But they couldn’t make the most of Barca’s slip as they themselves lost to relegation strugglers Granada 2 – 1. It was a frustrating match for Sevilla as they went behind to two goals in the first half. Though they pulled one back before the break, they couldn’t do much in the second half. A late red card to Adil Rami summed up their night as they slipped to seven points behind leaders Real Madrid.

Atletico Madrid 0 – 0 Espanyol

Diego Simeone had a chance to leapfrog Sevilla into the top three but they missed their chances too, making this a weekend of misses. The hosts dominated the entire second half but were unable to make any breakthrough as Quique Sanchez Flores’ men defended stubbornly. In fact, the hosts had Jan Oblak to thank for the point as the Atletico stopper had to make a couple of important saves to prevent Espanyol from going ahead. For Simeone, it was a huge missed chance in their efforts of making ground in the race to top three.
