Romania will have one eye on how Switzerland when they take on Albania in their final group A encounter of Euro 2016. This crucial fixture will be played at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday, June 19.

Romania have one point from their opening two fixtures after a loss to hosts France was followed by a tenacious draw against Switzerland. In the race for automatic qualification, they are at disadvantage but Romania are still in the race for the round of 16. A win against Albania coupled with a Swiss loss to France will brighten their chances of securing second place in the group. Even otherwise, a win will surely keep them in hunt for the four available sports for best third-placed teams.

Euro 2016

Iceland continued to surprise everyone by dishing out another strong performance against Hungary in a Group F encounter in Euro 2016. But in the end, it was Hungary who were celebrating a point, following a very entertaining 1-1 draw.

Iceland were impressive against Portugal and showcased the same gritty defensive resolve against Hungary. Shortly before the break, Iceland were awarded a dubious penalty following a penalty box tussle. Gylfi Sigurdsson calmly slotted from the spot to send spectators dreaming of a first ever tournament victory. They dropped deeper in the second half to absorb the Hungarian pressure but an own goal by Birkir Saevarsson leveled the things up for Hungary. There was no time for any further drama as both sides picked up a point each.

Euro 2016

Spain booked their place in the knockout stages of the Euro 2016 from Group D with an impressive display against Turkey. The 3-0 win puts Spain in pole position to capture the top spot from the top-of-the-table clash against Croatia while Turkey will need more than a mathematical miracle to shore up their chances.

The double defending Champions had to answer some awkward questions on the efficiency of their forwards after the first game. But any lingering doubts were put to bed with Alvaro Morata’s brace emphatically answering the critics. Morata and Nolito both scored before half-time to put Spain into advantage while a second goal by Morata shortly after the break fnished the job for Spain. There was no response from Turkey to the midfield sorcery of the Spaniards who continued their 62-year unbeaten run against Turkey.

Belgium had to respond to critics after a lackluster start against Italy in Euro 2016 and they did it in fine style. The Red Devils eased past Republic of Ireland for their first win of the tournament in Group E.

Marc Wilmots’ side has been one of the favorites to lift the title heading into the finals but were brought down crashing to earth in a disappointing display against Italy. Against Ireland on Saturday, they dominated throughout although it wasn’t until the second half that they scored their first goal from Romelu Lukaku. The second goal from Axel Witsel and a third from Lukaku gave the Belgians a well-deserved victory. Credit to Wilmots because all the changes to the starting lineup were spot-on! This kind of performance emphasizes why they are one of the hot favorites for the title.

Euro 2016

In a game that was marred by crowd trouble, Czech Republic provided the best entertainment so far in Euro 2016 by coming from two goals down to earn a creditable 2-2 draw against Croatia. This puts Croatia on a safe platter for progression from Group D while keeping Czech Republic’s hopes alive.

Croatia appeared to be cruising into the last 16 with goals from either side of half-time from Ivan Perisic and Ivan Rakitic earning them a 2-0 lead. The fluid midfield of the Croats led by Luka Modric was dominating the proceedings and it looked like they will coast easily. Croatia dominated the vast majority of the game and to be frank the Czech Republic looked dead and buried till that dramatic late action. In hindsight, the limping off of Modric combined with the unrest in the stands seems to have knocked Croatia off the boil.

Euro 2016

Italy continued to confound critics in style, this time a 1-0 victory over Sweden clearing their passage to the round of 16. It required a late strike from Eder to put the match in Italy’s kitty, in a match that was pedestrian at best.

Antonio Conte’s men continue to build momentum to their tournament bid – something which the Italians are always known for. But this display against Sweden was in sharp contrast to the domination they showed against the much-fancied Belgium. All of the incisive passing that put them on top against Belgium was conspicuously missing in this match. Marco Parolo had a couple of golden chances for the Italians while it was left to Eder to dribble his way through a host of Swedish defenders and score the winner.
