Euro 2016

Portugal defied odds and an injured Cristiano Ronaldo to stun the local hopefuls and win the European Championships 2016. They beat France 1-0 in Extra time at the Stade de France in the grand finale on July 10.

Much of the focus before the game was on how Ronaldo an Antoine Griezmann will impact the match. But it all threatened to boil down into an anti-climax as the Portuguese superstar was stretchered off after just 24 minutes following a strong tackle by Dimiti Payet. With no attacking outlet in the final third, Portugal resorted to defending deep and waiting for the right counter attack.

Euro 2016 will come to a grand finish at the Stade de France on Sunday, July 10 as France and Portugal vie for the title.

France were one of the pre-tournament favorites and with a talented squad, the hosts were expected to challenge for the title. They had to rely on the brilliance of playmaker Dimitri Payet in the group stages while it was Antoine Griezmann who led them in the knockouts. In fact, the Atletico Madrid forward is the top scorer of the tournament with five goals. And the best thing for France is that their midfield dynamo Paul Pogba is slowly coming into good form after a difficult start. And with Hugo Lloris manning the goal admirably, France look a complete side capable enough of lifting the title.

Euro 2016

Antoine Griezmann was again the star of the show as hosts France marched into the finals of Euro 2016 after beating Germany 2-0.

Germany controlled the proceedings for longer spells of the game but were found wanting in the final third. Just when it looked like it would finish goal less at half-time, Bastian Schweinsteiger was adjudged to have handled the ball in the penalty area. Griezmann converted it coolly to give France the lead. He doubled it after the interval with a neat finish into the empty net. The Germans tried their best to get back into the game and threw many bodies up front but were poor with their finishing. France have their captain Hugo Lloris to thank for the margin as he stopped Germany many times with acrobatic saves.
