The intense fight at both ends of the Premier League table continued this weekend as sides grappled with expectations. We look back at what happened in the weekend.

Arsenal thrash Sunderland

Arsenal pushed David Moyes close to the brink as a 4-1 win at the Stadium of Light left the hosts rooted to the bottom of the table without a win this season. Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud scored a brace each while Jermaine Defoe scored from the spot for Sunderland. The win kept Arsenal maintain close proximity to the leaders City.

Watford get lucky against Hull City

A late own-goal condemned Hull City to their sixth straight Premier League defeat that keeps them rooted in the bottom three. For Watford, the 1-0 win was significant as it lifts them above Manchester United up to seventh.

Man City get back to winning ways

The best way to come out of the rut is to announce a 4-0 win. That’s what Manchester City did at struggling West Brom. The win keeps City at the top of the table and keeps them in good spirits ahead of a crucial Champions League visit by Barcelona.

Man United slip further

It seems like Jose Mourinho has no end in sight to his troubles at United. They were dominant through the match but a 0-0 result is what they got against Burnley. That leaves them at eighth position, below Watford and a serious task at hand for Jose.

No Kane, no solace for Pochettino!

The absence of Harry Kane to injury continues to haunt Spurs as they drop more points – this time at home to Champions Leicester. The Foxes have not been in great form in Premier League recently and would be the happier team with a 1-1 result.

Liverpool thrash Crystal Palace

The Reds are so dominant these days that you can expect nothing but goals from them. Their defensive frailties are on show too as Palace threatened them for some time before the visitors came up with a 4-2 win. The win keeps Jurgen Klopp in the hunt for top spot.

Among others

A 2-0 home win for the Toffees helped Ronald Koeman get back to winning ways. For Slaven Bilic, it is another cruel reminder of the task at hand for his Hammers side this season.

Antonio Conte and Chelsea strolled to fourth consecutive win that takes them closer to the top. A 2-0 win over Southampton is a testimony of how much Conte has shaped the Blues back to shape this season.
